Affirmation - "The Day I Changed"

The Day I Changed

By Stacy James

July 11, 2003

The day I changed I decided to take control of my life.

I decided to like myself for who I was, not compare myself to people I wasn’t.

I decided to forgive the people who hurt me, and I realized that I was the one who felt better.

I decided to own my mistakes, my sins, and my shortfalls, and to take steps to become better.

The day I changed I decided to start seeing a counselor, and you know what? They really helped. And I realized that seeking professional help doesn’t mean you’re crazy, just smart.

The day I changed I decided not to be a victim, but a victor.

I decided to stop complaining, stop making excuses for why I couldn’t do things, and identify the reasons why I could.

I decided to focus on the positive instead of dwell on the negative, and be thankful for my many blessings.

The day I changed I decided I was worthy to be treated with respect and dignity.

I decided that friends were necessary, and I would choose them wisely.

I decided that asking for help was not a sign of weakness, but of real strength.

I decided to set goals and make myself reach them.

The day I changed I decided that God was my friend and not my enemy, and I should see Him as my helper, instead of blame Him for my problems.

I decided that if I was going to have a great life, it was going to be up to me.

That was the day I changed.

And that was the day I became free.
